Australian electro pop duo The Veronicas are definitely seeing red in the video for their latest single, ‘In My Blood’.
In the space of three minutes, twins Jessica and Lisa Origliasso throw a vase of flowers (red roses, obviously) at the wall. They fling the phone to the floor and trample over books. They put their feet through a table, and hurl a sledgehammer through the TV. It’s like Toyah’s 1981 brat-pop-punk hit ‘I Want To Be Free’ never existed.
Despite the visual premise of their new song’s promo, The Veronicas aren’t the aggressive hoodlums hinted at in this brief display of carnage. Not that their china-doll-esque beauty would give you that impression in the first place. They actually turn out to be one of the most charming girl bands on the music scene.
That’s not to say they’re not fired up by injustice and laws that won’t allow two people to love each other. Jessica and her sister Lisa have been very outspoken in their support of the LGBTQIA+ community back home in Australia. For a long time now they have been campaigning for marriage equality.
