We all know that the music industry has changed over the last few years. Despite the many upsides with instant ownership of downloadable music, social media promotion and online streaming, many artists are experiencing the downside and struggling to get a fair deal.
British singer-songwriter Imogen Heap is certainly no stranger to playing a part in advancing computer mechanics. She is making waves in the music industry once again by testing a technology that could change and transform the way music is produced and shared.
Heap is just one of a group of artists who are using blockchain technology to distribute music. Blockchain technology aims to record all recent transactions on a network and file them back as a permanent database.
On Friday 2nd October, Heap released her new single and video, ‘Tiny Human’, at a special Guardian Live event. This modern concept gave a group of hackers and developers just one day to show how the future via decentralised digital rights is likely to appear.
First performed live at Sennheiserr’s Reshaping Excellence event back in August, ‘Tiny Human’ is a spine-tingling electronic celebration of Heap’s baby daughter Florence Scout, who was born back in November. Always an artist to experiment with visuals in an intriguing and playful way, Heap has delivered an expressive, choreographed video that largely shies away from lip-syncing to make you concentrate on the song’s poignant lyrics. Beautiful work, once again.
