Lovestarrs Warm Up For Album Release With Otherworldly London Date

Lovestarrs are sister/ brother duo Sarah (vocals/ synths) and Hamish McIntosh (bass/ synths) hailing from Hampshire, UK. The duo have grown up on a feast of 80’s music from their parents vinyl collection including Prince, Lionel Richie, Wham and The Human League.

The dynamic pair have already released a few tracks online to great media attention, leading on to the release of their debut album ‘Planet Lovestarr’ on October 21st through pop label DEFDISCO, who also boast the likes of the Arctic Monkeys drummer and Public Enemy on their roster.

‘Planet Lovestarr’ was sbo recorded in Stockholm with Swedish whizz-kid producers Olle Blomstrom and Kristofer Ostergren, Tim Lundgren and Tobias Lundgren (Rascal Flatts) and in LA with Cameron Jaymes (Olivia Culpo).

In their own words, Lovestarrs describe the album: “Sonically, ‘Planet Lovestarr’ touches on all our favourite records from the 80’s, combining it with our love of modern pop music and hooks. We really want people to hear this album and to be able to sing songs back within a few times of hearing them. For us, that is the sign of a good pop album. Lyrically, ‘Planet Lovestarr’ is diverse. We didn’t want to just write about one topic. The album explores love, heartbreak, friendship, drinking, sex, places and dreams. We want to take people on a journey into our own little world.”

To support the album and future single releases, Lovestarrs have been touring this month throughout the UK, including a date at Birthdays in Dalston.

‘Planet Lovestarr’ will be released on DEFDISCO on 28th of October 2016.

A MAGICAL TRIUMPH: IMOGEN HEAP – LIVE AT WESTMINSTER CENTRAL HALL

The last time Imogen Heap played live to a substantial audience she was ambitiously curating – as well as performing at – London’s hi-tech mini-festival Reverb at the Roundhouse.

Whilst being heavily pregnant at the time, Imogen put on a show that, sadly, was riddled with problems. Despite it being a concert that showcased her ever-present sense of humour, it also highlighted technology she is famous for using crashing around her at an alarming frequency. It was heartbreaking and uncomfortable to watch, but it demonstrated a unique artist possessing not only a healthy passion for her art, but a dogged determination to introduce new methods of performance.

A year later, Imogen is back as a guest of Sennheiser’s 70th Anniversary celebration, Reshaping Excellence, to share the stage with the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie Orchestra for an intimate concert of two halves.

Speak-For-Yourself-cover

But it’s also an anniversary party of her own. Speak For Yourself, Imogen’s second solo album was originally released ten years ago. Tonight is a chance for Imogen to revisit that collection of largely electronic songs by remoulding them to fit with the feel of tonight’s event. As soon as she joins the orchestra for ‘Can’t Take It In’ (her Chronicles Of Narnia soundtrack cut), you know that the Methodist Central Hall in Westminster is the perfect station for her comeback. The song tonight plays faithful to the original, but with her musical colleagues around her to add dramatic depth, and a healthy gust of dry ice from the wings, Imogen makes it sound even more dynamic.

It’s a fleeting moment, but after a short interval, Imogen returns with a downsized orchestral accompaniment including a string quartet and her musical ‘Creatures’ – a computer-controlled ‘band’ made up of instruments donated by fans, friends and family. It is clearly evident by now that this is not merely going to be a special appearance, but an actual Imogen Heap gig – her only UK show this year (a tour of last album, Sparks was scrapped due to the arrival of baby Scout).

To celebrate Speak For Yourself turning 10, Imogen begins the show proper with ‘The Moment I Said It’ – a song that is not only the final album track, but a traditional show closer. It’s 6 minutes spent holding breath. Much like Gaga and her non-conventional stage costumes, Sandie Shaw and her bare feet, and Boy George with his top hat, Imogen Heap has her distinguishable characteristics. The Mi.Mu gloves didn’t quite work to plan at the Reverb festival but tonight, by and large, they behave themselves. It’s a relief because during ‘The Moment I Said It’, they work like a dream, helping Imogen shape the intricate melodrama of the song.

Fan favourite, ‘Speeding Cars’ sounds positively radiant tonight, as does single ‘Goodnight and Go’. But the real surprises this evening are the album tracks that have been re-shaped, modernised and developed. ‘The Walk’ is now more of a moodscape fantasy, and ‘Clear The Area’ is the sound of Imogen Heap’s own musical which, to be frank, I am surprised hasn’t happened yet.

After the clever acapella stylings of ‘Just For Now’ (which Imogen explains is all about a disastrous Christmas party where family members kick each other under the table and argue about burnt turkey and ill-fitting music being played), we are treated to a new song, ‘Tiny Human’, which was composed specifically for Sennheiser. Fundamentally it’s a song about Imogen’s experience giving birth to her daughter, but she humorously explains that you could also connect it to the German audio company introducing high fidelity products as their own babies. “I’m sticking with that excuse,” she says.

Heap tweet

As an encore, we are served ‘Hide and Seek’ – the closer from The O.C., which was later sampled by Jason Derulo on his ‘Whatcha Say’ hit. As the song reaches its climax, the Mi.Mu gloves malfunction. “I’ve worked out why this has happened,” affirms Imogen. “I think it’s because I’ve got sweaty palms”.

Reshaping Excellence is a fitting title for tonight’s show. As an artist, Imogen Heap continues to intelligently dissect, sculpt and adapt her work in an ongoing quest to maintain an exciting art form. Her bravery in her confidence to make new technology work as a live performance should be applauded, even when computers are not on her side. A magical triumph.

BEFORE THE DAWN: ONE YEAR ON WE REMEMBER KATE BUSH’S LONDON SPECTACULAR

A year ago today, Kate Bush and her KT Fellowship began their run of Before The Dawn shows at the Eventim Apollo, London. It was six of the most incredible weeks in musical history.

From the very first announcement on Friday 21st March 2014 (stating that Kate was to play her first live shows 35 years after her last – at the same venue) it was an emotional rollercoaster for her fans. Many, myself included, believed that they would never see Kate perform live. So when she took to the stage on Tuesday 26th August at 7.45pm, it was an incredibly powerful moment. Some even called it a ‘religious experience’.

Before The Dawn4
Before the most powerful and magical experience of Before The Dawn

That night, with an enormous sense of curiosity and excitement, I stayed up late and read all the reviews of the show as they surfaced online. Initially, I had promised myself that I wouldn’t give in to Situs Judi Slot Online Gampang Menang temptation. I’d been fortunate enough to obtain a ticket for the show on Tuesday 16th September – just a few days before my birthday – and the idea of not knowing what was on the setlist was an attractive one. Alas, it was short-lived – I gave in to temptation. I also succumbed to insomnia as I couldn’t sleep until 6am.

Despite knowing the setlist, so much of the show remained Habanero Slot Online a mystery. Kate’s request for fans not to take photos and videos at the gigs was an astute concept. Still, to this day, I am astounded by the fact that hardly any pictures or videos taken during the show have surfaced online. In the current age of social media and smartphone obsession, this is a rarity. Kudos to Kate.

In hindsight, I don’t think I have ever been so excited or intrigued about a gig before – and I have lost count of how many I have attended in my lifetime. How would Kate enter the stage? Would she still possess https://livesound.store/bocoran-slot-gacor/ that wonderful voice? Would she give in to nerves and cancel the tour after not performing live for so long? How would she engage with the audience? How would The Ninth Wave be visualised? So many questions.

I still find it difficult to express my disbelief and wonder Slot Gacor Hari Ini of my first experience of Before The Dawn. Firstly, there was the surrealism of seeing Kate Bush standing a few metres in front of me, barefoot, delicately twirling to the sounds she created back in the year I left school – a time when seeing her performing live was just a total fantasy.

Aerial

There were so many highlights throughout this spectacular show. There was the brooding 2005 song ‘King Of The Mountain’, which, whilst lulling you into a false sense of security, built to such a crescendo that you weren’t JUST watching Kate and her band playing live but the start of a totally mind-blowing and intricate two-act spectacle of music and theatre.

kate-running‘Running Up That Hill’ stirred up an emotion so intense that it actually left me breathless, as did the Slot Pragmatic reaction from the crowd when ‘Hounds Of Love’ was launched. Suffice to say, a standing ovation after every track in the ‘usual rock gig’ segment of the show was not an over-reaction or undeserved. And when I say ‘usual rock gig’ as an illustration here, of course what I really mean to say is unusual. Before The Dawn was a show like no other. It pushed the boundaries. It was a game changer.
I don’t think I will ever forget how The Ninth Wave was introduced as a piece of musical theatre. The Hounds Of Love suite consists of seven songs that tell the story of a young woman adrift at sea. Hounds Of Love is my favourite Kate Bush album. To see it played out live was intense, shocking, eerie and rousing. Previous concerns I had about ‘Waking The Witch’ losing its power on stage were quickly extinguished.

BeforeTheDawn-10

But for me, the truly exceptional part of Before The Dawn was the second act: A Sky Of Honey – the latter part of Kate’s 2005 album, Aerial. It was melancholic, dream-like and emotive with the most beautiful lighting effects and projections I have seen on a theatre stage. On the second night RTP Slot Tertinggi I saw the show (I was fortunate enough to buy tickets after a 10-hour wait outside the Apollo), I relished in the sumptuous display from an upper circle seat.

It’s a real testament to Kate, her band and her fellowship that even those who had not previously embraced Aerial had succumbed to its hypnotism and learned to truly https://academipress.com/rtp-slot-tertinggi-hari-ini/ love it after seeing it performed live. If there is one thing about Kate Bush that I genuinely adore, it’s her ability to tilt the norm on its head. If there was ever a modern-day musical adaptation of Hitchcock’s The Birds, it would be this! Seeing Kate cocking her head, bowing down and chirping bird noises has to be seen to be believed.

IMG_8840As I left the Hammersmith Apollo auditorium on Tuesday 16th September at 11pm, I had feelings of witnessing a live concert like nothing else before. I’d experienced total elation, sadness, nostalgia, wonder and gratitude. I left the venue feeling like I’d been blown to pieces, both physically and mentally. Critics https://academipress.com/slot-pragmatic-gacor-hari-ini/ were writing five-star reviews in the press. They weren’t exaggerating. What they were writing wasn’t copycat journalism – this show was professionalism at its peak. When you hear reports of men crying at Before The Dawn, believe them. I was an emotional mess.

Of course we can never predict what Kate Bush will do next, which is precisely one of the reasons why we love her. To this day, the DVD/Blu-Ray of the show still hasn’t surfaced, despite RTP Slot Tertinggi the fact that the concert was filmed – an annoyance not only to the fans who want to see it again on the small screen, but to those who weren’t fortunate enough to grab tickets to see the show at the Apollo.

Whatever happens, I am thrilled to have those memories. Before The Dawn was a show that I will never forget in my lifetime. I take my hat off to all the amazing people Game Starlight Princess responsible for this production, and I thank all the wonderful people with whom I shared this truly magical experience.

THE HUMAN LEAGUE: LIVE AT BRIGHTON PRIDE 2015

On Saturday 1 August 2015, one of the finest electronic new wave bands The Human League played their very first Brighton Pride event at Preston Park. It was a remarkable gig for many reasons. The band sounded tight and controlled, Joanne and Susan’s vocals sounded perhaps the best they ever have, and lead singer Phil Oakey looked positively enthralled about being up on stage in front of thousands of Pride revellers. He clearly looked like a man having the time of his life.

IMG_1546

What was most significant about this short but satisfying performance was how well received the band were. Yes, they played a greatest hits set (featuring five Top 10 hits), and avoided the temptation to play the more obscure fan-favourites such as ‘Being Boiled’ and ‘Empire State Human’, but they still showed the signs of one of Britain’s best synth pop bands pushing the boundaries.

Human League 2

From the opening bars of ‘Mirror Man’, through to the anthemic, ‘Heart Like A Wheel’, it was a rousing display of their best-loved tunes, culminating in a Giorgio Moroder classic, which was an emotional way to close the set.

IMG_1552

It was heartwarming to see such a rapturous response from the crowd at Preston Park, proving that The Human League are not just ‘an 80s band’, but a band as relevant in 2015 as they were in their heyday.
